Health and Safety Policy

Health and Safety Policy

A written Health and Safety Policy is a legal requirement under Section 2 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, for any company employing 5 or more staff. The Health and Safety Policy should consist of three key sections:

1. Statement of Intent (What the company intends to achieve with regards to Health and Safety - Its objectives, targets and goals).

2. Organisational Responsibilities (Health and Safety responsibilities - who is responsible for what, from Managing Director and the Board, down through layers of management, right the way down to employees).

3. Arrangements for Implementation (How the company is going to achieve its aims - The detailed procedures that will be followed to ensure staff remain safe and healthy). This should be specific to the company, and might include such topics as Risk Assessment, training procedures, Manual Handling, Work at Height, workplace transport, personal protective equipment, consultation with employees etc.

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 also says that the Health and Safety Policy must be regularly reviewed and revised, and must be brought to the attention of all employees.

If you have no current policy at all, we can work with you to develop a brand new Health and Safety Policy.

If you already have a Health and Safety Policy, but feel it is a little outdated and not quite to your needs, we can review and update the policy - amending sections not relevant and adding any required sections.

Those businesses with nothing in place very often need more than simply a Heath and Safety Policy. Employers with 5 or more employees also need to conduct Risk Assessments, and may also have requirements for Health and Safety Manuals and Competent Safety Advice.

A new Health and Safety Policy or the review of existing Health and Safety Policies and many other services can be covered as part of our Health and Safety Membership Scheme.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if we can help in any way. We are more than happy to come and see you to discuss your requirements with absolutely no obligation and charge whatsoever.
