Legionella Risk Assessment

Bradley Environmental offer professional water and Legionella Risk Assessments to help compliance with current UK regulations including Health & Safety at Work Act and the COSHH regulations.

Employers have a duty of care and a legal obligation to undertake a water and Legionella Risk Assessment on all premises where there is a foreseeable risk of exposure to Legionella bacteria.

This includes all hot and cold water systems from domestic type office systems to large process systems in food factories and foundries etc.

For more information about a Legionella Risk Assessment, please complete our contact form and one of our legionella consultants will be in touch.

It is a requirement under Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH) to assess the risk from biological hazards which include the deadly Legionella bacteria. This requirement is further enforced by HSE ACoP L8: ‘The Control of Legionella Bacteria in Water Systems’.

As an employer or a person in control of the premises (e.g. a Landlord), you must:

  • Undertake a Legionella Risk Assessment;
  • Identify and assess potential sources of Legionella bacteria;
  • Prepare a scheme, (or course of action), for preventing or controlling the risk of Legionella within your premises;Implement and manage the Legionella control policy;
  • Appoint a person to be responsible for your Legionella testing, design and management of your action or management plan;
  • Keep records and check that precautionary systems are effective, (continued Legionella monitoring);
  • If appropriate, notify the local authority that you have a cooling tower(s) on site;
  • Review your Legionella Risk Assessment periodically.
