As a fully independent and impartial company, you can be confident that the results and recommendations you receive from Bradley Environmental Consultants will always be in your best interests!

What is asbestos fibre air monitoring and testing?

Asbestos Fibre Air Monitoring (also known as asbestos air testing) is used to detect the level of asbestos fibres within the atmosphere. By drawing air through a filter over a predetermined period of time, airborne particles are collected and prepared for examination by our qualified asbestos analysts.

All of our Asbestos air analysts drive fit for purpose vans which double as UKAS approved mobile laboratories, allowing paperwork such as re-occupation certificates to be issued immediately following works, saving our clients time and money.

Do I need asbestos fibre air monitoring services?

Asbestos Fibre Air Monitoring assesses the concentration of airborne asbestos fibre levels that may have been generated by the asbestos removal process or if an asbestos containing material is suspected to have been disturbed, affecting the surrounding air. Asbestos fibre air testing can be conducted:

  • To confirm that an appropriate level of personal protection equipment (PPE) or respiratory protective equipment (RPE) has been chosen. This can be achieved by undertaking personal air monitoring or sampling on individuals where the works are being carried out
  • To check the effectiveness of dust suppression methods used during the asbestos removal process
To provide data for employee exposure records

As one of the four stages of acquiring your Clearance Certificate, required to reoccupy your building, the asbestos air test is essential to determine that the levels of asbestos fibres are safe for occupation.

Trustpilot Review 2

An asbestos re-inspection survey is designed to allow the duty holder to monitor and record the condition of any previously identified asbestos products within a building.

Like any building material, asbestos-containing materials are also subject to potential damage and degradation. As an asbestos product degrades it can be more likely to become a hazard to health, therefore should be inspected at regular intervals to ensure its condition has not deteriorated.

For this type of re-inspection survey to be undertaken, an existing asbestos survey or asbestos register should be in place.

Asbestos re-inspection surveys are designed to allow a competent person to monitor and record the condition of any previously identified asbestos products within a non-domestic building.

What will the asbestos re-inspection report show me?

Your asbestos re-inspection survey report will:

  • Assess your current asbestos documentation and identify potential issues with the data or gaps.
  • Re-inspect your sites and update your asbestos records, identify any changes to your asbestos containing materials
  • Review your current control measures, documentation and asbestos management plan

What can we do to help?

Bradley Environmental can re-inspect any previously surveyed property and update the information, whether held electronically or as a hard copy. We will discuss your requirements and identify the frequency of visits and checks. Where necessary, we can handle discussions with the HSE on your behalf. This service can be offered over any period of time including a one, three, five or ten year period. The longer term options provide cost certainty and compliant information that protect your investment from the initial survey.

Should your existing asbestos containing materials be identified and deemed unsafe due to deterioration, our Asbestos Removal and Project Management Services team can help you choose and plan your next course of action to achieve compliance;

We have the experience where it counts

Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2012 states that the team carrying out the asbestos re-inspection survey must possess sufficient information, instruction and training to carry out the assessment. You need to ensure that the asbestos consultant you use is competent enough to trust with your asbestos risks so that you can be assured your team, building occupants and surrounding environment is protected from the harmful effects of asbestos.

What are my responsibilities?

If you are the duty holder, you are required to manage your asbestos risks in line with the Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2012. Effectively managing your asbestos risks is imperative to protecting your building occupants, environment, and organisation from the risks of asbestos. Regular asbestos re-inspection surveys will ensure you remain compliant.

Go to: Pre-Demolition Asbestos Survey

Previously known as a type 2 asbestos survey, the Asbestos Management Survey is a legal requirement for duty holders responsible for any non-domestic premises. This asbestos survey is a surface sampling survey, designed to identify all of the materials that could potentially be disturbed during normal occupancy of the building and will take into consideration the contextual use of the building i.e. if there is a lot of moving traffic from the building occupants such as in a retail building.

The Asbestos Management Survey will take into consideration light maintenance work (ie. changing light bulbs, checking above lowered suspended ceiling tiles, loft spaces, etc) but it is not a destructive/intrusive survey.

What can we do to help?

Asbestos Management Surveys will often involve minor intrusive work and some disturbance. The extent of intrusion will vary between premises and depend on what is reasonably practicable for individual properties. Following completion of your Asbestos Management Survey, you will be provided with a report detailing the location, condition and and type of any asbestos found within the building.

Our Asbestos Management Surveys will include a risk assessment of the condition of the various Asbestos Containing Materials found and their ability to release fibres into the air if they are disturbed in some way. This will give you a good initial guide to the priority for managing Asbestos Containing Materials as it will identify the materials that will most readily release airborne fibres if they are disturbed.

Asbestos Management Surveys will generally cover routine and simple maintenance work. However where more extensive maintenance or repair work is involved, a Pre-Refurbishment Asbestos Survey will be required.

We have the experience where it counts

We are accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) to ISO 17020 for asbestos surveys. Our four in-house asbestos testing laboratories are accredited by UKAS to ISO 17025 for the analysis of bulk samples.

What will the asbestos management survey report tell me?

Your asbestos management survey report will identify any asbestos containing materials, their location and condition.

Your asbestos management survey report will show you:

  • The location of asbestos containing materials, if any
  • The type of asbestos found
  • The condition of the asbestos containing materials
  • Recommended asbestos removal or remedial works
