Meera Health and safetyMeet Meera the newest member of our Health and Safety team here at Bradley’s. Meera joined us as a Health and Safety Consultant this month and we are really excited to have her on board! We asked her some questions about her previous role, her reasons for applying to Bradley's and what she likes to do in her spare time.

Where did you work before and what was your job role?

Sentinel Safety Solutions Ltd (a risk management consultancy) where I provided advice, audited a number of clients premises, reviewed risk assessments and conducted COSHH assessments.

What made you get into the field of Health & Safety?

I have always been passionate about Health and Safety and other aspects of Environmental Health from the age of 14, when I had work experience at Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council.

I have always loved the thought of meeting different people and making the workplace and Environment a safer place. I went on to complete a BSc (Hons) Environmental Health Degree.

I’ve worked as a Health and Safety Consultant since January and prior to this, I’ve had 2 years of experience working at Birmingham City Council’s Environmental Health and Waste Enforcement Unit. My role there included serving notices, investigating complaints, investigating minor accidents, interviewing suspects under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, taking witness statements and collecting evidence.

Can you give us an example of one of your most memorable pieces of work?

A piece of research which I conducted at University was about student’s awareness of Food Safety and Hygiene practices. I make links between different factors that influence a person’s Food Safety knowledge such as gender, housing type and subject studied.

There was a statistical variation between the results of the Science and Non-Science samples. University students studying a science degree were more aware of preventing Campylobacter infection in a domestic environment in comparison to students studying non-scientific degree. Highlighting the importance of education on hygiene practices as people who studied Science based subjects were more likely to have covered this in their studies.

Tell us a little bit about your current job role at Bradley’s?

My role at Bradleys includes: Advising clients, conducting risk assessments/method statements, auditing different premises for potential Health and Safety breaches and providing recommendations.

What do you enjoy about it so far?

I love the variety of inspecting different workplaces and the continual learning throughout my role.

Why did you apply to Bradley’s?

I liked the good reputation that Bradley’s has and the fact that Bradleys invests in their employees and I know there will be further opportunities for growth in the future.

How was the recruitment process? Would you recommend the company to others?

The recruitment process was very good, I liked how quickly I heard back from the interview and how approachable the interviewers were.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I am very passionate about the performing arts and like to act in amateur musicals and occasionally at the Black Country living museum. I also like to sing at open mic nights. I also enjoy volunteering at my local charity shop on Saturdays.
