During the current unknown times of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, there is a need to understand how to work safely and protect your employees and 3rd parties (such as your customers, visitors and external contractors) from contracting or spreading coronavirus.

There is still a duty for all employers to manage risks in the workplace, Health and Safety legislation still applies. Your Coronavirus risk assessment is about the control of infection and will be different to a typical workplace risk assessment you are probably used to.

However, business owners and managers should not get distracted from considering other hazards that are present in the workplace. Especially those hazards that are hidden from plain sight, such as the potential for Legionella to be present within the buildings water systems.

Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE), such as disposable FFP3 and reusable half masks, has been identified as one of the principal means of reducing exposure to harmful airborne particulates, including the COVID-19 virus. Where “tight fitting” RPE is to be used, it is essential that a face fit test has been carried out, in all instances.

Water tank cleaning and disinfectionFollowing the announcement by Boris Johnson earlier this week, we are aware that many of our clients will have taken the difficult decisions to reduce staffing levels or the closure of their buildings, to assist in reducing the spread of Covid-19.

However, please be aware that such actions can increase the chances of Legionella surviving in water systems as a direct result of low turnover of water within systems that are not being used as frequently, or as a result of existing control measures that are in place not being implemented at times of closure or low occupancy.

Further to the ongoing Coronavirus epidemic, please note that we continue to service our clients’ needs. All Bradley Environmental offices are open and fully operational.

Our mission is to keep our staff, customers and visitors safe from harm and we will react to the ever evolving situation based on Government advice. We will keep all staff, customers and visitors informed, taking the necessary action in line with the latest guidance.

FIAO RNLI Logo 2020We are delighted to announce that our Charity of the Year for 2020 is The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

RNLI crews and lifeguards have saved over 142,700 lives since 1824. Their volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour rescue service in the UK and Ireland, and seasonal lifeguards look after people on busy beaches. They also help those affected by flooding across the country.

In aid of Mind LogoOur charity of the year fundraising has come to an end and we are proud to announce we have raised an amazing £2000 for MIND Charity. We ran a series of events throughout the year including charity runs, raffles and bake sales and we are delighted to be making this donation to support a charity who provide advice and support to those experiencing mental health problems, across the country. We will soon be announcing our Charity of the year for 2020 and hope that we can raise just as much as we did in 2019!

Asbestos fibres have been added to thousands of different product types which we will be having a look at each month in our 'Asbestos Product Spotlight'.

Asbestos fibres can be released through impact, wear, weathering, and ageing, as well as when being worked on. If inhaled, these fibres can lead to serious and incurable conditions and diseases. Keeping asbestos in good condition (including having any work done by properly-trained people), will reduce the risk of inhaling asbestos fibres.

Asbestos Textured Coatings:

  • Are often (and, often, incorrectly) referred to as “Artex”;
  • Usually contains around 5% chrysotile (“white”) asbestos fibres;
  • Used as a decorative covering on ceilings and / or walls;
  • Fibres are generally well-bonded into the material;
  • Are generally low-risk.
