Bradley Environmental’s company charity of the year has been chosen, we had an in-house vote and Bliss was announced the winning charity.

To raise money for the chosen charity we have decided to have a dress down Friday, where all our staff have the choice to come to work in there own clothes and make a contribution every time, so by the end of the year all the money will be collected and sent to Bliss. bliss picture

Bliss is one of the leading UK charity for babies born premature or sick, they are a community of parents, families, volunteers, health professionals and researchers all working together to make sure the sickest and most vulnerable babies in the UK have the best possible start in life.

By us raising money for bliss we hope to make a difference to the lives of babies born premature or sick we will be helping to empower families, influence policy and practice, enable life changing research.

This charity in particular is quite sentimental towards one of our colleagues, Dawn Taylor our Senior Technical Administrator, as her daughter was born 6 weeks premature and she was in the special care baby unit for a couple of weeks, It was at that time she realised how much there was a lack of resources available to premature babies, even little things like clothes.

Bliss was founded in 1979 by a group of concerned parents who discovered that no hospital had all the equipment it needed to safely care for premature and sick babies. Determined to do something, these volunteers formed a charity to give vulnerable babies the care they deserve. Almost 40 years later Bliss has grown into the leading UK charity for the 90,000 babies born needing neonatal care every year. Bliss’ vision is that every baby born premature or sick in the UK has the best chance of survival and quality of life.

Two city landlords have pleaded guilty to failing to put right a string of housing offences at a property in Whitmore Reans.

Balwant Rai, aged 41 and Raj Kumari, aged 53, both of Bilston, pleaded guilty to failing to put right serious health and safety problems at a property in Carter Road.

The pair last week received fines and costs of more than £5,800 each at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court.

Now, Wolverhampton council hope the conviction of the landlords will act as a strong deterrent to others who put their tenants’ health and safety at risk.

The property, then occupied by a family of five, including three children, was inspected by council housing officers in February, and an improvement notice was issued.

Further inspection revealed the landlords had failed to deal with fire hazards, electrical issues, food safety concerns, a lack of drainage, and the large build up of waste to the rear of the property.

As a result of the condition of the property, and the risk it posed to the tenants, the council also served a Prohibition Order, which came into effect on July 11, 2016, to prevent it being lived in.

Councillor Peter Bilson, deputy leader and cabinet member for city assets, said: “We are determined to bring to task landlords who are not complying with housing laws.

“Our residents’ health and wellbeing is of paramount importance to us and this case should act as a lesson to all landlords in the private sector.”

Following the conviction of the pair, the council has this month launched a new five-star rating system to improve the quality of housing in the private sector.

The ‘Rent with Confidence’ star rating system for private landlords’ aims to encourage greater customer choice and raise living standards.

Bradley Environmental participated in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer, Last year Macmillan alone raised £25 million. Coloured photo 1

Yesterday we hosted our own coffee morning and the outcome was amazing.. as the staff arrived the smell of warm baked cakes seeped through the corridors into the kitchen where everyone gathered to indulge in the wonderful cakes that everyone had baked. We were spoiled for choice we had a choice of Lemon cakes, Victoria Sponge, Cupcakes, Fruit Cake, Lemmingtons, Cookies, Samosas and the list goes on....

Bradleys have participated in Macmillan’s Coffee Morning for the past few years,

How Macmillan Started:

"The first ever Coffee Morning happened way back in 1990. It was a rather small affair with a simple idea: guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their cuppa to Macmillan in the process. It was so effective; we did it again the next year – only this time nationally. Since then, Coffee Morning has raised over £138 million for Macmillan"

Margaret worked as an usherttere in quinton's classic cinema between 1975 and 1976 and Birmingham Hippadrome from 1976 until 1986.. Mrs Halls said: "Nothing will ever bring back my mum, but I really want to know how she could have come into contact with asbestos as the dangers were known back then and it is only right that her past employers are held to account for their negligent actions.

The heartbroken daughter of a former usherette from Cradley Heath is appealing to her mum’s ex-colleagues after she died from asbestos-related cancer. Lynne’s Halls' mother Margaret Rose Edgington was 71 when she first became ill in 2012 and was diagnosed with mesothelioma the following year.

She died on September 8, 2014. Margaret worked as an usherette in Quinton's Classic Cinema between 1975 and 1976 and Birmingham Hippodrome from 1976 until 1986. Mrs Halls said: “Nothing will ever bring back my mum, but I really want to know how she could have come into contact with asbestos as the dangers were known back.

Then and it is only right that her past employers are held to account for their negligent actions. “I’d be so grateful to anyone who worked with my mum or at Classic Cinema or Birmingham Hippodrome around that time to get in touch to help shed some light on how she would have been exposed to the substance.”

During her time at the Hippodrome, Margaret became friends with a colleague, Anne, and the two were pictured with Des O’Connor, who was appearing at the theatre at the time.

Mrs Halls added: “I’d particularly like to hear from Anne and it would mean a lot to my family and I if she could get in touch.

“Mum worked hard her whole life.

"We’re devastated to have lost her this way. If someone could just give us the answers we’re looking for we’d feel like we could better come to terms with our loss.”

Alida Coates, a specialist industrial disease lawyer at Irwin Mitchell said: “Margaret’s family have been left devastated at the loss of their mother.

"It was a complete shock to be told that her Margaret had a fatal asbestos illness."

She added: “We are keen to speak to anyone who worked at or undertook refurbishment at Classic Cinema, Quinton or the Hippodrome during the period when Margaret was employed.

“Any information from people engaged in refurbishment or fellow colleagues or friends who worked alongside her could prove vital in securing the information we need to secure justice for Margaret and her family.”

One of our Directors Chaz had organised a "Brave The Shave" to raise some money for Macmillan cancer support.

This is his story......

"I am raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support with my
colleagues Luke Pountney and Brent Walker to help give something back for the great work Macmillan carry out helping the lives of everyone living with cancer.

When a family member or close friend is diagnosed with cancer, your world is instantly turned upside down and when I lost my dad to cancer just over a year ago, Macmillan were brilliant for our family and helped us through one of the hardest times of our lives. Sadly, all too often cancer seems to touch most of our lives in some way, whether it be family or friends.

Brent, Luke and I thought we would try and raise some money for Macmillan and ‘Brave the Shave!’ to stand proudly alongside men, women, children and their families who are suffering from this horrible disease.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Recently we received a very lovely letter from a family in Manchester who were so moved by one of our staff's actions that they wanted to express their gratitude, one of our staff members went above and beyond to ensure the family were reunited with their possessions.

Bradley Environmental were asked to perform a survey at a property in Manchester, (The home of the family’s parents for 63 years until their father died, last September).

The letter reads...

"We had cleared the house totally, or so we had thought. During that process we had been unable to find a gold watch given to my father and engraved by ICI to commemorate his 30 years' service to the company. We had to assume that it had somehow been lost but because it was of great sentimental value, we were saddened by this as my mother had enjoyed wearing it and was rarely seen without it. My father and mother had both expressed their wish that I should be given it and pass it on in due course to our daughters.

Last night I received a phone call from our minister's wife, informing me that Mark, an employee of Bradley Environmental had found this watch whilst doing work in my parents' former home. My father, ever cautious, had hidden it on top of a door frame in its original box.

Mark had not only retrieved the watch for safe keeping, with the knowledge of his colleagues, but had then researched the family name which was engraved on the watch on the Internet, until he had found a connection via some research my sister-in-law had undertaken regarding the First World War. He had then taken the trouble to contact our minister at church and through that lengthy process had found me. He arranged finally for his wife to send the watch to me within twenty four hours.

We are all delighted that such a sentimental item from our family history has been found. We want to record our gratitude to Mark for his honesty, care and understanding and for the trouble he has taken to reunite this item with its owners. Such integrity in an employee of your firm is praiseworthy. We feel that Bradley Environmental Consultants is fortunate to have Mark as a trainee"

We are so happy that the Manchester family were reunited with their sentimental item, and we are delighted to have Mark as an employee at Bradley Environmental

bradley environmental 25 year anniversary skydive justgivingSix very brave staff from our Wakefield office have just completed and survived a Tandem Sky Dive to raise awareness for various different lung conditions, including Mesothelioma and Asbestosis which are caused by prolonged exposure to Asbestos Fibres.

Our chosen charity for this death defying stunt is The British Lung Foundation.

All six were securely harnessed to experienced instructors before take-off and climbed to around 10,000ft. When the green exit light came on it was time to take a couple of deep breaths and then JUMP!!

Once in freefall, they all accelerated to speeds in excess of 120mph and covered 5,000ft in approximately 30 seconds before the instructors opened the main parachute.

Once the parachutes opened each person had a few minutes of floating back to earth before landing with a gentle OUCH!!

Those taking part included Emily Dykes, Kevin Towers, Matt Bulman, Karen Steer, Jane Flegg, and Dave Maddison.

Well done to you all!!
