Throughout October the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will be conducting inspections of construction sites to monitor safety in the workplace. The month-long campaign #WorkRight began on 4th October 2021, with this year’s initiative focusing on construction site workers and how to help reduce the risk of respiratory issues and lung conditions due to their exposure to dust.

Dust 2During these inspections the HSE will also be looking at the control measures businesses have in place to ensure health and safety procedures are up to standards. Being prepared for this upcoming inspection will protect your business, your workers and will protect the surrounding communities and demonstrate your commitment to health and safety.

Some of the most common construction jobs create high dust levels. These jobs often involve the use of power tools like cut-off saws, grinders, breakers and sanders. There is a legal duty for employers to prevent or adequately control worker exposure to construction dust.

Although the focus throughout October is health and prevention of dust related illnesses, if any other areas of concern are identified, inspectors will take the necessary action to deal with them.
