With over 14 years of experience in the Asbestos Consultancy industry, Phil George has become the newest addition to the team in our Livingston office. Phil is a Senior Asbestos Consultant and will be working with some of our key clients in Scotland. We asked Phil some questions about his previous work and what he likes to do in his spare time.
Where did you work before and what was your job role?
Before joining Bradley Environmental I worked for an Asbestos Consultancy based in Edinburgh. I started my career as an analyst and quickly progressed to become an Asbestos Surveyor and then a Project Manager.
What made you get into the industry and how long have you been in it for?
I originally came to Scotland to work as an Occupational Psychologist / Ergonomist for the Institute of Occupational Medicine. I spent a lot of time working with the company’s asbestos division and enjoyed the work so much I transferred full-time into the division over 14 years ago.
Do you hold any qualifications?
I have a BSc (Hons) in Occupational Psychology and an MSc in Ergonomics. I hold all of the necessary asbestos qualifications that my role demands, such as the BOHS P402 Buildings Surveys and Bulk Sampling for Asbestos certificate. I recently gained the BOHS Asbestos and Other Fibres W504 qualification.
Can you give us an example of one of your most memorable pieces of work?
That has to be the Darwin Building at the University of Edinburgh. I was one of the Lead Analysts working on the project which lasted for 3 years and involved the removal of mainly high risk spayed coating from the building.
Tell us a little bit about your current job role at Bradley’s?
As a Senior Asbestos Consultant, I have been tasked with looking after some of our key clients and will be involved in developing the branch and team to become one of Scotland’s leading providers of Asbestos Management and Compliance services.
What are your initial thoughts about Bradley Environmental?
I have only been working at Bradley Environmental for a short time but can already tell they are a great company to work for. I receive lots of support from all of the staff in Livingston and other offices. I would not hesitate to recommend the company to other people working in the asbestos sector.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I am passionate about scuba diving. I am a PADI Divemaster Instructor and love to see the smile on students faces when they successfully complete their first dive on their open water course. My favourite locations to go diving are Egypt, Malta and of course Scotland. I also love hill walking and we have some particularly stunning places to visit in Scotland.
