Meet Rachel our Occupational Hygiene Consultant, who recently joined the Health and Safety team here at Bradley’s. We asked her some questions to find out more about her job role and what she enjoys about it.

Where did you work before and what was your job role?
ESG Bretby – Occupational Hygiene Technologist.

What made you get into the field and how long have you been in it for?
I have been in the Environmental Consultancy sector since finishing university, and have worked in Occupational Hygiene for approximately 2 years. Before that, I had several roles carrying out Air Quality assessments for Environmental Impact Assessments and site work for Stack Emissions Testing and Contaminated Land work. I find Occupational Hygiene the most interesting as I’m pretty nosey and it’s good to get to have a look at what people do for their jobs!

Following a request by campaigner Lucie Stephens, whose mother Sue died last year from an asbestos-related cancer after working as a teacher for 30 years, figures have been released regarding asbestos found in Telford schools.

"Parents have been kept in the dark about asbestos risks for too long," Miss Stephens Said: “A survey in 2015 found that 44 per cent of teachers have not been told if their school contains asbestos. This lack of awareness puts them and their pupils at risk of exposure.”

Workplace inspections help prevent incidents, injuries and illnesses. Through an examination of the workplace, they help to identify and record hazards. HSE are currently carrying out inspections across the country where a Health and Safety Inspector may visit your organisation and examine the arrangements you have in place for assessing and controlling risks. This may include:

A hotel guest has died after contracting Legionnaires' disease and another fell ill following a stay at the same place, it has been revealed.

The Feathers Hotel, in Ludlow, Shropshire, has voluntarily closed to the public on advice of health bosses.

Public Health England said that tests have shown links between Legionella bacteria found in water samples from the hotel and the two guests involved.

Bradley Environmental Consultants Ltd has gained a ‘shop window’ with some of the biggest companies in the construction sector by joining Achilles BuildingConfidence – the UK construction industry accreditation and risk management scheme.

A group of lovely ladies from Bradley Environmental Consultants Ltd (Halesowen) have decided to push themselves and take on the Wolf Run spring event. This involves a 10k 'run', obstacle courses and a 'swim'. By the end we foresee ourselves crawling in mud up to our eyes! This is a very strenuous challenge for anyone to complete, we are going to see our girls really exceed themselves. wolf run

Bradley Environmental’s company charity of the year has been chosen, we had an in-house vote and Bliss was announced the winning charity.

To raise money for the chosen charity we have decided to have a dress down Friday, where all our staff have the choice to come to work in there own clothes and make a contribution every time, so by the end of the year all the money will be collected and sent to Bliss. bliss picture

Bliss is one of the leading UK charity for babies born premature or sick, they are a community of parents, families, volunteers, health professionals and researchers all working together to make sure the sickest and most vulnerable babies in the UK have the best possible start in life.

By us raising money for bliss we hope to make a difference to the lives of babies born premature or sick we will be helping to empower families, influence policy and practice, enable life changing research.

This charity in particular is quite sentimental towards one of our colleagues, Dawn Taylor our Senior Technical Administrator, as her daughter was born 6 weeks premature and she was in the special care baby unit for a couple of weeks, It was at that time she realised how much there was a lack of resources available to premature babies, even little things like clothes.

Bliss was founded in 1979 by a group of concerned parents who discovered that no hospital had all the equipment it needed to safely care for premature and sick babies. Determined to do something, these volunteers formed a charity to give vulnerable babies the care they deserve. Almost 40 years later Bliss has grown into the leading UK charity for the 90,000 babies born needing neonatal care every year. Bliss’ vision is that every baby born premature or sick in the UK has the best chance of survival and quality of life.
