From the 4th of May 2021, the HSE will be targeting firms across Great Britain in a new series of inspections focussing on metal fabrication businesses to check that they are managing the respiratory risks of welding fumes and metalworking fluids.
The HSE inspectors will be focussing on workers who undertake welding and use metalworking fluids to check that they are complying with the welding fumes guidance and metalworking fluid guidance.
During the visits, dutyholders will need to demonstrate they have measures in place to manage risks to protect their workers from occupational lung disease.

Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust have confirmed our support services for April 2021, meaning we have officially been at both City and Sandwell Hospital, providing our vital Face Fit Testing Service, for over a year.
We have performed 9,584 fit tests across the Trust and have had a physical presence on site for just under 300 out of the 365 days or so available. This has also given us a great opportunity to upskill dozens of staff in both qualitative and quantitative fit testing. We will also be looking to put several staff through the Fit2Fit accreditation in the coming months.

Under the SafeContractor scheme, Bradley Environmental Consultants underwent a strict vetting process which examined current health and safety procedures throughout the business, and our track record for safe practice.

As a result of our recent assessment visit in December 2020 by the Legionella Control Association (LCA), we are proud to have successfully retained our LCA Certification for another 12-month period.
LCA Members provide a range of products and services for the control of Legionella in bacteria in water systems. LCA Members demonstrate that they have complied with the LCA Code of Conduct and LCA Service Standards and are committed to helping their customers prevent the transmission legionellosis and keep their water systems safe. Membership is voluntary, but is seen across the industry as increasingly important in demonstrating a commitment to high standards of service.

With over 14 years of experience in the Asbestos Consultancy industry, Phil George has become the newest addition to the team in our Livingston office. Phil is a Senior Asbestos Consultant and will be working with some of our key clients in Scotland. We asked Phil some questions about his previous work and what he likes to do in his spare time.
Where did you work before and what was your job role?
Before joining Bradley Environmental I worked for an Asbestos Consultancy based in Edinburgh. I started my career as an analyst and quickly progressed to become an Asbestos Surveyor and then a Project Manager.

For most schools and colleges, the key remaining risk is the potential disturbance of asbestos during maintenance or construction works.
There are specific actions that you must take where work is carried out on the premises, which might disturb asbestos materials, including upgrading, refurbishment or demolition. This includes any work that disturbs the fabric of your building, whether it is small-scale repair work carried out by your own staff or a large-scale project that is being contracted out.

The team of assessors from Bradley Environmental have now carried out over 7500 face fit tests since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak. We have also provided over 1000 respirators to NHS staff and frontline key workers. From the beginning of the outbreak, our face fit assessors have worked tirelessly to get people face fit tested for suitable RPE as quickly as possible.

Katie is from Leeds and is married with a son who is at University. Katie enjoys socialising with her family and friends and spending as much time as she can in Lanzarote.
How long have you worked at Bradleys and what’s your role?
I have worked for Bradleys for over 2 years and I work in the Business Development Department mainly as a Client Project Manager with some of our top customers. I also work with the Bid Team who are responsible for submitting completed tenders to prospective clients.
